Pattern Puzzle - Turnback Thinking

The Double Turnback Drape is not especially new.  We have featured it twice in our #PatternPuzzles and although it's not the most challenging pattern to cut, it is so attractive in its simplicity.

This particular design detail is featured across many fashion ranges and is relatively easy for the enthusiast sewer to interpret, using patterns they already have in their stash.  However its success relies heavily on two important features that we will make the highlight of this weeks post.

You'll find all the pattern making detail on the website blog.

  1. Thank you for posting this, I've been thinking of putting together this sort of top for some time. This has made it very clear!

  2. Hi there, I love your blog!!! I am an intermediate sewist who is trying desperately to get away from using printed sewing patterns.

I have to wonder though whether the croquis is drawn incorrectly (though the difference is very subtle). The CF at the neck should extend to the CB at the neck, not to the bottom of the armhole.

The 'turn back thinking' diagram shows this. Taking the pattern piece on the right side facing you, the CF at the neck travels diagonally to the left hip, then turns to the back side and travels diagonally to the CB, not to the side seam (?).

I'm drawing this up now and am so excited to see how it goes.

    1. Hi Kitty. Thanks for dropping by. :) Not sure I understand your reference to the armhole? There may be other twists that connect with the armhole but not this one. There are so many ways to achieve these patterns I am curious to see what you come up with. Feel free to post your photos here or on our FB page. And me know if you have any questions as you go along.
Btw love your blog. Great insight to New York for us outsiders. ;)
