Pattern Puzzle - The Drape Shift Woven

The original Drape Shift #PatternPuzzle post has turned out to be the best performing of all our blog posts over the past two years.  It has pattern making instructions for the knit version of this design which is admittedly far more straight forward than the woven fabric version featured in this post.  So in response to many requests I have detailed here the pattern making instructions to make this design for woven fabrics.

  1. I read your posts and am in awe. I'm not yet ready to tackle your puzzles but hope that I will be able to in future. I'm attending a pattern cutting class and this week the tutor showed, briefly by demonstration, the idea of TR pattern cutting. I knew this wasn't a new concept. I guess getting rid of darts into design lines is exactly what you are doing? I love this dress and would consider making it for one of my daughters in a few months when hopefully I will have a few more skills. Thank you

    1. Hi Anne, thanks for dropping by the blog. Yes dart transfer is mostly what I am doing here. It has always been my favourite thing in pattern making. :) I will follow your blog and see how the pattern making classes go. Please ask questions here if there is anything I can help with. This kind of pattern making is a wonderful creative journey and I wish you all the best. :)

    1. Hi Habibur, thanks for dropping by. Unfortunately I don't have measurements. These are just instructions to make the pattern from your own dress block. If you need a dress block you'll find my blocks available as downloads here: http://www.studiofaro.com/my-blocks-pdf Let me know if you have any questions as you go. :)

  4. Hi
Still your puzzle patterns are a challenge for me, and with your method you make it more interesting to do it. I have a question (maybe it is a stupid one), why do I have to slash and spread and do all this work, could I just draw the outline of the pattern after using my basic dress pattern, placing them as in the picture in your project? Thank you in advance for your support. I just love your work. Best wishes

    1. Hi Maha, the slash and spread is a way of getting rid of the fitting darts in your dress block. If you're using a block with no darts maybe you don't have to slash and spread so much. Let me know how you go. :)
